Bukimbi, Uganda - Water Wells

Location: Bukimbi, Namayingo District, on the shores of Lake Victoria

Partner: Cristian Fellowship Ministries Uganda, with Pastor John Wandera

Served: 1,000+ adults and 780 schoolchildren

Bukimbi is a community of roughly 9,164 residents in Uganda's Namayingo District, which despite sitting on the shores of Lake Victoria has long struggled to access clean, safe water, relying instead on the contaminated lake, shallow open wells, and stagnant ponds located over five kilometers away, a journey that exposed residents to waterborne disease and even fatal crocodile attacks. In late 2024, following a request from Pastor John Wandera and Christian Fellowship Ministries Uganda, funding was approved for the drilling and completion of a new well in Bukimbi, overseen locally by a nine-member Water User Committee. Since its completion, the well has transformed daily life for the community: more than 100 households and over 1,000 adults now have reliable daily access to clean water, along with 780 pupils at the nearby Good Hope Nursery and Primary School, who report improved punctuality and focus in the classroom now that they no longer bear the burden of long-distance water collection. The committee also reports reduced household stress and conflict tied to the former water scarcity, along with families no longer needing to risk the dangerous walk to Lake Victoria — a change the community describes as having restored both safety and dignity to daily life in Bukimbi.
